Overview
As Associate Director in AECOM’s Building Services, you lead multidisciplinary teams on major UK, European and Worldwide MEP projects from feasibility to delivery. You will work closely with clients and architects to shape design and drive outcomes across building services disciplines. The role combines technical leadership with project management and business development to grow market share in the local and regional markets. You’ll mentor staff, uphold standards, and contribute to decarbonisation initiatives, leveraging BIM and digital tools.

Responsibilities
- Lead multi-disciplinary design teams for Building Services projects from feasibility through operation
- Manage a team/office of engineers and coordinate with management
- Meet financial targets and internal KPIs while motivating the team
- Prepare and present designs, reports and specifications
- Oversee design and construction stage activities with external and internal teams
- Contribute to updating AECOM standards
- Deliver, review and approve mechanical engineering calculations
- Negotiate fees and change control
- Act as main liaison with design teams
- Project manage AECOM/Client contracts, including fee expenditure and schedule
- Mentor junior staff and promote CPD
- Build and maintain client and architect relationships for repeat work
- Support and lead 3D and BIM capabilities
- Maintain and grow expertise within the team
Key requirements
- Strong knowledge of the local market (South East England)
- High technical understanding of mechanical building services across sectors
- Proven track record leading design teams
- Experience in project management within defined budgets and programs
- Fluent communication and report writing skills
- Senior Mechanical/Building Services Engineer with relevant design experience
- Experience from concept to completion and client interaction
- Decisive, proactive, and self-driven
- Experience in mechanical design including specifications, calculations, energy and distribution
- Familiar with UK codes and practices
- Ability to work across disciplines and manage cross-functional teams
