Overview
As a Geotechnical Engineer in Arup’s Ground Engineering team, you will lead geotechnical design and site investigations for major infrastructure and development projects across energy, water, transport and built environments. You’ll guide early ground studies through to design and construction, coordinating with clients and partners to deliver safe, sustainable solutions. You’ll shape multi-disciplinary efforts, grow technical capability, and mentor teams while contributing to Arup’s mission of making a positive impact. This role offers exposure to high‑profile schemes and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical design for foundations, walls, earthworks and buried structures
- Organise desktop studies, plan and interpret ground investigations, develop ground models and manage ground risk
- Prepare and apply UK specifications for ground investigations, piling and earthworks; understand consultancy services and construction contracts
- Utilise geotechnical software for data management, ground modelling and design
- Lead design teams and act as client/contractor liaison on projects
- Develop client relationships, support sustainability‑led design and team development
- Contribute to a broad portfolio including data centres, road/rail, flood schemes, dams/reservoirs, wind power and buildings
Key requirements
- Strong experience in geotechnical design
- Ability to lead desktop studies, ground investigations and ground modelling; manage ground risk
- Experience with UK specifications for ground investigations, piling and earthworks; knowledge of contracts
- Proficiency in industry-standard geotechnical software for data management and design
- Relevant degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, engineering geology; professional qualification (ICE or Geological Society)
