Overview

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design major components and sub-systems for high-integrity environments. You will work within a engineering team to develop, prototype, and document robust solutions that meet specifications and safety standards. You’ll use CREO to create concept and detail designs and perform supporting calculations and testing. This role emphasizes collaboration with design authorities, SMEs, and manufacturing teams to deliver manufacturable products with rigorous documentation. A key hook is the need for DV clearance and the chance to contribute to mission-critical defence/aerospace projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative and robust design solutions based on requirements and briefs
  • Use CREO Parametric CAD to produce concept and detail designs
  • Generate supporting calculations and analyses to justify design choices
  • Collaborate with SMEs, users and Design Authorities on concept designs
  • Coordinate with a team to develop a single sub-system design solution
  • Work with CAD engineers to produce drawings and data packs
  • Create and present Design Review data packs to senior engineers and governors
  • Assist in prototype production and validate designs with manufacturing/purchasing
  • Perform physical testing and design proving on engineering prototypes
  • Ensure components and assemblies conform to relevant standards and safety requirements

Key requirements

  • Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions and obtain UK National Security Vetting (DV)
  • Experience in defence industry; aerospace/space domain is advantageous
  • Direct experience designing and developing mechanical sub-systems and components
  • Experience designing and specifying electrical interfaces for sub-systems
  • Knowledge of materials, treatments, finishing technology for defence/aerospace/space
  • Working knowledge of CREO CAD and ability to produce complex parametric designs
  • Ability to use Windchill PDM
  • Knowledge of complex mechanism design and principles
  • Ability to perform basic structural and kinematic calculations
  • Proven track record of design and product development for harsh environments
  • Impeccable attention to design detail and high-quality documentation
