Senior Business Analyst / Product Consultant (Defence)

Overview

As a Product Consultant (Senior Associate) at Kainos, you help translate business needs into workable software solutions delivered in an agile, client-facing environment. You facilitate analysis and design to ensure cost-effective products that serve users worldwide, communicating clearly with both business and technical stakeholders. You work closely with cross-functional teams to articulate problems, create user stories, and prioritise value-driven requirements. This role offers impact through shaping solutions for complex public sector and defence-focused projects within a collaborative, people-first culture.

Responsibilities

• Ensure team understanding of business needs to align solutions with user requirements
• Articulate problems and processes clearly to business and technical stakeholders
• Facilitate analysis and design of cost-effective software solutions
• Create high-quality user stories and manage backlog and priorities
• Engage in stakeholder management and challenge where appropriate
• Model business processes and present designs to gain buy-in
• Translate business requirements into functional specs for development
• Facilitate small-group sessions to achieve focused outcomes
• Work within Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies and meet deadlines
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team to deliver digital products
• Mentor and coach team members and support customer consultants on storytelling techniques
• Maintain commercial awareness and deliver within project constraints

Key requirements

• Experience in bespoke software delivery in an external, client-facing consulting environment
• Active SC clearance
• Experience in the public defence sector
• Broad business and technology understanding with awareness of industry trends
• Proven delivery experience as part of an agile team
• Strong stakeholder management and challenging where appropriate
• Excellent user story creation and backlog management skills
• Strong business process modelling and capability to present processes for buy-in
• Facilitation skills for small groups (dev teams, delivery committees)
• Ability to translate requirements into cost-effective functional specifications
• Good communication skills with diverse stakeholders
• Understanding of Agile and Waterfall project delivery methodologies
• Ability to work flexibly and meet tight deadlines
• Team-player with strong cross-disciplinary collaboration
• Desirable: mentoring/coaching experience, client-site delivery, community involvement
