Principal Product Engineer – Custom Layout & Virtuoso Applications

Overview

In this role you bridge Cadence’s Virtuoso platform with strategic customers, driving adoption of custom analog and FinFet workflows. You collaborate across R&D, product, and customer success to translate real-world challenges into product improvements. You’ll guide technical reviews, provide hands-on education, and shape validation and documentation to scale impact. This is a customer-facing, technically deep role that influences product direction and market success.

Responsibilities

• Engage with customers to capture custom analog and FinFet layout requirements and translate them into actionable guidance
• Present at technical reviews and align product capabilities with roadmaps to customers and internal teams
• On-site visits and education sessions on Virtuoso cockpit and debug tools, collecting structured feedback for R&D
• Create demonstrations and Rapid Adoption Kits to enable sales and educate pre-sales teams
• Develop SKILL-based utilities and validation plans to address unique customer needs
• Use Virtuoso to create and validate test schematics/layouts, feeding R&D with feature feedback
• Author Product Requirement Specifications and coordinate cross-functional alignment
• Collaborate with Product Validation to ensure rigorous flow validation and regression testing
• Work with Technical Publications to ensure accurate, customer-relevant documentation
• Inform tooling positioning and licensing strategy via close customer feedback and field observations

Key requirements

• 5–8 years in the EDA or closely related technical field
• Experience in custom analog layout and understanding of analog layout challenges
• Hands-on experience with Virtuoso Layout Suite for connectivity-driven layout
• Familiarity with SKILL programming language and ability to write utilities independently
• Customer-facing or field applications engineering experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
