Overview
In this role you will lead planning for bids and projects within the Regions and Public Sector Construction unit, shaping delivery strategy and programme governance. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to optimise preconstruction and construction methods, ensuring accurate schedules and timely reporting. You will use data and lessons learned to anticipate delays and drive mitigation, while mentoring junior planners. This role offers impact across multi‑million pound projects and bids, with a proactive, collaborative culture and clear focus on risk management and delivery excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning, programme and delivery strategy for bids and projects with the project team
- Shape preconstruction and construction methodology for efficient delivery
- Produce project plan, programme and Planning Report for large/complex projects
- Provide innovative solutions for successful delivery
- Report progress against contracts and delivery programmes
- Prepare documentation for senior leadership on programme matters
- Analyse data and lessons learned to anticipate delays and propose mitigations
- Maintain medium- and short-term programmes and project control data
- Chair weekly planning meetings and manage milestones
- Review change proposals for time impacts and compensation events
- Record as-built data and production rates for benchmarking
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Planning Procedures
- Coordinate 4D BIM model with the BIM Coordinator
- Foster project team understanding and ownership of the programme
- Mentor and develop junior planning staff
Key requirements
- Proven practical experience with NEC form of contract
- Skilled in using data tools for programme analysis and reporting
- Deep understanding of construction methodology, building technology, pre-construction processes, and procurement
- Strong grasp of construction contracts and commercial terms
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to produce clear reports and visual planning diagrams
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6 and CPA planning techniques
- Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables)
