Overview
In this role you will lead commercial activities for a Midlands civil engineering contractor on schemes up to £100m. You’ll work with a cross-functional team to maximise margins, guide tendering and contract decisions, and develop commercial procedures. You’ll coach and manage a QS team, drive KPI development, and maintain robust commercial governance on large highway and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities
- Review and optimize commercial plans to maximise margin
- Provide contractual guidance across NEC/JCT frameworks
- Manage the monthly commercial audit process
- Develop and implement commercial KPIs
- Coach and lead a team of Quantity Surveyors, cost controllers and project planners
- Advise on tendering process and contract strategy
- Improve commercial procedures and appraisal/objective setting
- Support project teams with cost control and financial reporting
Key requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or similar
- 10 years’ experience in civil engineering on highways, structures, and infrastructure
- Experience on schemes worth 20M+
- RICS-qualified preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant software
- NEC and JCT contract experience
- Contractual advisory experience in tendering
- Proven coaching and leadership ability
- Ability to develop and promote commercial KPIs
- Proven ability to manage a team of QS, costing staff and planners
