In this Senior Mechanical Designer role, you will lead mechanical design work for mineral mining and processing projects, from concept to construction support. You’ll contribute to a multidisciplinary team, delivering robust designs for surface and underground facilities, ventilation, and material handling. The position offers autonomy and direct collaboration with engineers, managers, and clients to ensure on-time, compliant outcomes. Responsibilities
- Produce detailed mechanical designs, layouts and drawings using AutoCAD, Microstation and Advance Steel, in line with Australian Standards and client specs
- Develop and manage 3D plant models and coordinate clash detection with Navisworks or similar tools
- Apply knowledge of underground hard rock and surface mining systems including ore handling, dewatering and ventilation systems
- Independently interpret geotechnical, civil and structural interfaces to create fully coordinated mechanical designs for underground environments
- Liaise with project engineers, project managers and clients to manage deliverables and ensure on-time delivery
Key requirements
- 8–12 years of mechanical drafting and design experience, with at least 5 years in mining and mineral processing
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Microstation, Open Plant Modeler, Advance Steel, and Navisworks; Revit and Plant 3D highly regarded
- Experience delivering across Pre-Feasibility to Construction design stages
