Overview

As Principal Solar Electrical Engineer at AECOM, you lead design and delivery of solar PV projects—from rooftop to utility-scale—across multiple regions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams on NSIPs and other large initiatives, applying advanced PV design tools and best practices to maximise efficiency and minimise environmental impact. You’ll mentor teams, engage clients, and contribute to safe, compliant project delivery with a focus on quality and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design solar PV systems using PVSol, PVSyst, PVCase and other standard tools
  • Produce design layouts, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
  • Conduct technical site surveys across the UK
  • Attend client meetings and develop effective technical solutions
  • Support the commercial team with technical submissions and tender documentation
  • Uphold health and safety culture across the business
  • Maintain knowledge of electrical standards, codes, and best practices
  • Deliver technically excellent outcomes with high quality project results
  • Apply BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and IET Code of Practice for Solar PV Installations

Key requirements

  • Degree or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership
  • Experience designing/specifying/constructing solar PV projects in consultancy, EPC, or developer settings
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems and electrical infrastructure
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical reports, specs, and client submissions
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices for solar PV installations
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers
  • Ability to manage client relationships and provide technical leadership
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and deliverables
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Client relationship management
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • PV design software: PVSol, PVSyst, PVCase
  • Knowledge of solar PV systems and electrical infrastructure
