Overview

As Site Supervisor you will lead a construction team delivering capital projects that replace electrical assets at substations (11kV–132kV) across the South of England. You’ll coordinate programs, ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, and act as the main on-site contact. You’ll oversee contractor RAMS, inductions, and welfare provisions while managing materials and supplier interactions. This role focuses on safe, efficient execution in live substation environments with close collaboration across disciplines. A key hook is contributing to SSE’s low-carbon grid expansion and reliable energy delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work programme to ensure resource availability
  • Prepare Construction Phase Plans per CDM requirements
  • Supervise site works and assign staff
  • Serve as main site contact for on-site activities
  • Review RAMS for contractors/sub-contractors
  • Ensure inductions and safety briefings are completed
  • Distribute safety documents and run toolbox talks
  • Order minor materials; track orders and invoices; process supplier quotations
  • Plan welfare provisions and ensure on-site welfare availability

Key requirements

  • Experience in operational electricity substations (11kV–132kV)
  • Strong CDM Regulations knowledge, Principal Contractor role
  • Proven supervision of working parties in live substations
  • Familiarity with CDM and COSHH safety regulations
  • Formal qualifications: IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS, EUSR, First Aid at Work, and electrical engineering qualification
  • Full valid driving license and willingness to travel
