Overview

In this role you join a dedicated Court of Protection team to support vulnerable individuals through deputyship and mental capacity matters. You will provide specialist advice, represent clients in proceedings, and oversee financial and welfare decisions with professionals across the care spectrum. The role combines direct client work with collaboration among barristers, social workers, and deputies to ensure compliant, effective outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of Court of Protection matters, including deputyship applications and financial affairs management
  • Represent clients in Court of Protection proceedings
  • Advise individuals, families, charities, local authorities, and professional deputies on mental capacity and best interest decisions
  • Liaise with barristers, medical experts, social workers, and financial professionals
  • Act as a professional deputy where required, overseeing clients’ financial affairs, property, and welfare decisions
  • Support lay deputies to ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and OPG regulations
  • Prepare and submit applications, reports, and documentation to the Office of the Public Guardian
  • Draft legal documents, witness statements, and Court applications
  • Manage workload, prioritise tasks, and maintain accurate electronic files

Key requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor (typically 2+ years PQE), or Chartered Legal Executive, or highly experienced Court of Protection case handler with 5+ years’ experience
  • Outstanding communication and client care
  • Strong time management and organisational abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and meticulous case management
  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act 2005 and OPG regulations
  • Experience with deputyship applications and Court of Protection proceedings
  • Drafting legal documents, witness statements, and Court applications
