Design Engineers

Overview

In this Principal Civil Engineer role, you lead end-to-end project delivery, balancing safety, technical quality, schedule, and budget. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams and foster relationships with clients to ensure outcomes and high satisfaction. You’ll shape service delivery through innovative approaches and digital solutions, while contributing to sustainability initiatives like Future Ready and Net Zero. You mentor graduates and degree apprentices, support recruitment, and advance your own leadership and technical capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end project delivery with focus on health & safety, technical quality, programme, and budget
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to meet project objectives
• Identify opportunities to leverage capability from WSP UK and international business
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and ensure outcomes meet expectations
• Support new ways of working, including innovative approaches and digital solutions
• Contribute to Future Ready and Net Zero initiatives
• Promote best practice within the Asset Design team and support client-led initiatives
• Support bid work with input into proposals, resourcing, and budget development
• Line manage and mentor graduate engineers and degree apprentices
• Assist with recruitment and growth of the civil engineering team
• Continue developing technical expertise and leadership skills

Key requirements

• A degree in Civil Engineering
• Chartered status, or progress toward ICE or CIWEM
• Experience leading engineering design teams (civil and supporting disciplines)
• Track record delivering projects on budget and schedule
• Experience as checker or technical approver on linear civil infrastructure or industrial/process design
• Experience coaching and mentoring junior engineers
• Strong client-facing skills and relationship management
• Confident written, verbal, and presentation abilities
