Associate Transport Planner

Overview

Senior Transportation Planner / Project Manager in HDR’s Transportation Business Group, expanding services in the UK. You will lead multi‑modal transportation planning projects and provide technical leadership while supporting initiatives in the US, Canada and the Middle East. You’ll manage teams, deliver deliverables to HDR quality standards, and build client relationships to grow the HDR UK Transportation business. This role combines leadership, technical excellence, and cross‑regional collaboration to shape safer, more sustainable mobility.

Responsibilities

• Project management of UK transportation planning projects and international support
• Provide technical leadership on projects
• Manage staff in developing deliverables and analyses
• Lead and develop teams and individuals
• Oversee financial performance, programme delivery, and technical standards
• Prepare project and fee proposals
• Engage directly with clients to understand and support transport needs
• Prepare and review deliverables and presentations to HDR quality standards
• Collaborate with HDR teams in the UK, Middle East and North America
• Support development and growth of HDR UK Transportation business

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Urban Design or related subject
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in transportation planning and urban design
• Strong background in active travel, public transport, scheme development, strategies, studies and appraisals, including Transport Assessments and Travel Plans
• Excellent analytical, technical, and communication skills
• Experience in statutory consultation and planning appeals is a plus
