Overview

As a Project Archaeologist, Field Lead, you drive field-based cultural resource investigations across Ontario, from urban brownfields to remote locations. You join a collaborative archaeology team dedicated to high-quality, compliant assessments within a broader environmental practice. You will lead field operations, mentor technicians, and partner with Indigenous communities, clients, and regulators. Responsibilities

  • Provide Field Supervisor oversight and act as Project Field Lead
  • Lead Stage 1–4 Archaeological Assessments in the field
  • Coordinate resourcing and logistics with Project Managers and Team Leads
  • Monitor field progress and ensure quality of fieldwork
  • Mentor Field Technicians and oversee probationary evaluations
  • Contribute to proposals related to field operations
  • Liaise with Indigenous communities, clients, and landowners during fieldwork
  • Deliver culturally informed, defensible recommendations for cultural resource management
  • Manage direct reports (Field Technicians) up to 10+ and provide coaching
  • Promote and participate in Stantec’s health and safety program

Key requirements

  • Ontario Field Supervisor experience (required)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license (required)
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, or equivalent
  • Professional or Research Archaeology License (Ontario) in good standing
  • Minimum 5 years of cultural resource management experience
  • Minimum 2 years of archaeological Field Supervision experience
  • Ability to mentor junior field staff
  • Experience collaborating with regulatory staff and Indigenous communities
  • Highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Mentorship and coaching of junior staff
  • Strong collaboration with environmental professionals, regulatory staff, and Indigenous community members
  • Stage 1–4 Archaeological Assessments in the field
  • Cultural resource management planning and reporting
  • Field operations planning and logistics
