Overview

In this role you drive security, reliability, and modernization of business-critical banking applications through hands-on engagements with development teams. You lead complex remediation efforts, build automated tests, and upgrade runtimes while shaping CI/CD and observability patterns. You work directly with client stakeholders to define and implement practical modernization plans and ensure sustainable engineering practices. This opportunity offers high-impact work at fintech scale with hands-on coding and direct technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead targeted engagements addressing security, testing, release, resilience, and legacy technology challenges with development teams.
  • Assess code, dependencies, runtime, test coverage, deployment architecture, CI/CD, observability, and operational risks.
  • Write, debug, review, and enhance production-quality code and configuration during engagements.
  • Define and implement modernization and remediation plans with priorities, risks, and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop or improve unit, integration, component, contract, and deployment tests using TDD.
  • Select and drive automation-testing approaches, including AI-assisted coding.
  • Source test data and implement secure data masking for lower environments.

  • Improve source control, branching, PRs, and code reviews.
  • Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for safe, automated releases.
  • Automate database changes (Liquibase or equivalent) and environment changes (Ansible or equivalent).
  • Implement secure coding, secrets management, authz/authn, and least-privilege controls.
  • Introduce standard observability patterns (logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerts, health checks).
  • Enhance exception handling, diagnostics, rollback procedures, and production-validation controls.
  • Design/resiliently deploy architectures (hot-hot, cross-datacenter as needed).
  • Lead technical workshops and communicate decisions, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, standards, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
  • Take ownership from assessment to production handover and stabilization.

Key requirements

  • Extensive hands-on software engineering experience with active code writing and configuration.
  • Expertise in Java and JVM-based development; strong TypeScript for Node.js projects; Spring ecosystem proficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with TDD and automated testing within CI/CD environments.
  • Secure coding, vulnerability remediation, and dependency risk analysis with impact assessment.
  • Upgrading runtimes/frameworks/libraries, container platforms (Docker/OpenShift), and Linux environments (Red Hat preferred).
  • Knowledge of build tools (Maven/Gradle/npm), advanced Git workflows, and production debugging.
  • Understanding of observability, exception handling, and production readiness; distributed systems principles.
  • End-to-end ownership and strong client-facing communication; ability to coach teams and drive standards.
  • Proficient use of AI-assisted development tools.
