Overview
As Principal Structural Engineer in Belfast, you will lead technically challenging structural projects and steer client relationships. You’ll provide technical direction, mentor the team, and influence design strategy across local, national, and international assignments. You’ll work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment to deliver robust, buildable solutions while promoting innovation and best practices. Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on complex projects from concept to completion
- Lead structural input on major multidisciplinary commissions and ensure robust, economical designs
- Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
- Ensure quality, coordination, and compliance with project requirements
- Manage delivery scope, technical risk, quality, programme and resources
- Coordinate with architects, civil, and services engineers and other specialists
- Develop client relationships and deliver effective engineering solutions
- Support business development, bids, scopes, and fee estimates
- Mentor and develop engineers and technicians and support their professional progression
- Oversee inspections, surveys, and site support during construction
- Ensure designs comply with UK and NI standards and health and safety commitments
- Promote innovation, digital engineering and best practice across the team
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and maintain AECOM’s technical excellence
Key requirements
- Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
- Professional membership of MIStructE and/or MICE
- Significant post-Chartership experience in structural engineering design and leadership
- Proven track record delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects
