Head of Health and Safety

Overview

In this senior role, you will shape and drive health and safety strategy across a major London bus operator. You’ll partner with operational, engineering and leadership teams to embed a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with UK legislation. You will lead investigations, monitor performance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk at scale. Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for health and safety across all London sites and garages
• Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives aligned with legislative standards
• Build strong relationships across operational, engineering, and leadership teams to promote safety excellence
• Lead investigations into incidents, ensuring lessons learned drive continuous improvement
• Monitor safety performance, identify trends, and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies

Key requirements

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification in health & safety
• Significant experience leading health and safety in a large, operational environment
• Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation
• Excellent communication, influencing skills, and a visible, hands-on leadership style
