Overview

In this role you will lead clinical governance to ensure safe, compliant, high-quality care across PHL. You’ll partner with service leadership to manage incidents, risk and complaints, and drive quality improvements. Your work supports a strong safety culture and learning across the organisation, aligned with our caring, team-first values. This is a visible governance leadership role with significant impact on patient safety and regulatory alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a visible, approachable leader within the Clinical & Quality Team and inspire colleagues
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the clinical governance framework and standards (CQC, NHS England, NICE, CAS alerts)
  • Produce patient safety and governance reports for services and committees and drive improvements
  • Support investigations into patient safety incidents and potential litigation, ensuring learning is embedded
  • Maintain and monitor the risk register and provide expert clinical risk management advice
  • Oversee complaints handling via Datix, ensuring timely investigations and learning
  • Research, write and embed clinical and governance policies and procedures
  • Chair a delegated sub-committee and support governance meetings across services
  • Support ISO 9001 quality management requirements

Key requirements

  • Experience in clinical governance and compliance in healthcare (ideally 3 years)
  • Qualified healthcare professional (Nurse, Paramedic, Pharmacist or Allied Health Professional) with current registration
  • Experience developing and implementing governance procedures and policies
  • Experience coordinating risk management and risk reporting
  • Knowledge of Information Governance (Data Protection)
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills with senior managers
  • Experience drafting briefing papers and handling multiple information sources for governance
  • Change management skills
  • Knowledge/experience of incident investigations, PSIRF, and patient complaints
