Overview

In this role you will contribute to Croda’s mission of smart science to improve lives by developing sustainable biotech products. You will work in the Biotechnology R&T team at Daresbury, combining lab research, process development and scale-up support to advance fermentation-based technologies. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated product development aligned with Croda’s 2030 Growth Strategy. This hands-on position emphasizes practical experimentation and continuous improvement within a diverse, values-driven culture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise upstream biotechnology processes for biotech-derived materials and sustainable products
  • Design, execute and document laboratory experiments; analyze data and interpret results
  • Collaborate with synthetic biology, downstream processing, analytics and application teams
  • Support process development, scale-up and technology transfer activities
  • Participate in technical discussions, project reviews and presentation of findings
  • Maintain accurate lab records and ensure SHE/compliance in the lab
  • Contribute to continuous innovation and cross-functional knowledge sharing

Key requirements

  • Experience in laboratory-based biotechnology, fermentation or bioprocess development
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments independently, analyze data and communicate findings
  • Interest in sustainable technologies and biotechnology-enabled product development
  • Strong collaborative mindset for multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Ability to review literature critically and apply findings to development activities
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and process technologies
  • Good organisational and documentation skills, with active SHE participation
