Overview

As a Senior/Principal Sustainability Consultant, you lead building certification delivery and help clients meet decarbonisation targets. You’ll work with UK and international experts to design and communicate sustainability strategies across a varied project portfolio. Your role shapes how projects achieve Net Zero and sustainability goals, while mentoring colleagues and supporting business growth. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage building certification projects and competitive bids
  • Provide expert guidance on BREEAM, WELL, and other schemes
  • Support clients in setting decarisation targets and pathways
  • Assist senior colleagues in project delivery
  • Coordinate with clients, partners and key stakeholders
  • Deliver strategic sustainability advice in early design
  • Produce technical summaries and reports
  • Analyze large datasets and convert findings into outputs
  • Mentor junior consultants and support senior members
  • Oversee internal quality assurance procedures
  • Recommend low carbon design measures to clients and designers
  • Present findings and outcomes to clients

Key requirements

  • Strong understanding of building design, construction processes, and material performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities
  • Deep knowledge of BREEAM, WELL, and other environmental performance standards
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to guide multidisciplinary teams through certification processes
  • Experience preparing and leading tenders and proposals
  • Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, architecture, building services or related discipline
  • Demonstrable expertise in building certification schemes
  • Strong grounding in environmental impact assessment and environmental science
  • 5+ years’ experience in sustainability consulting within the built environment
  • Licensed BREEAM Assessor
  • Proven experience delivering certification projects and leading or mentoring teams
  • Experience integrating low carbon and climate resilient design solutions
  • Commercial awareness related to business development, marketing, and proposal writing
  • Excellent communication skills and proactive problem-solving abilities
