Overview
As Compliance Coordinator in the Risk and Compliance team, you will support client onboarding, AML checks and regulatory processes while helping to improve internal systems. You will liaise with fee earners, staff, clients and third parties to ensure accurate records and compliant onboarding. This role offers cross-functional collaboration and opportunities to strengthen controls and guidance. You will play a critical part in maintaining UK regulatory compliance in a professional services environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage requests for new client and matter openings with accuracy and timeliness
- Perform AML, client due diligence and onboarding checks per UK regulations and internal policies
- Maintain compliance records, logs and documentation related to onboarding
- Provide clear guidance on AML, sanctions, high risk jurisdictions, source of funds/wealth requirements
- Identify and escalate complex or higher-risk matters to the Risk and Compliance Manager or MLRO
- Stay up to date with AML regulations, sanctions and internal procedures
- Support improvements to compliance systems, guidance notes, and training materials
- Collaborate with MLRO, finance and broader Risk and Compliance team on relevant matters and ad hoc projects
- Undertake other duties including travel between office locations
Key requirements
- 2–3 years’ experience in a compliance-related onboarding role within a law firm or professional services
- Practical AML and client due diligence experience including Money Laundering Regulations 2017, sanctions screening, high risk jurisdictions
- Experience with business research using online databases
- Conflict analysis experience desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise under pressure
- High attention to detail and methodical record keeping
- Investigative and analytical mindset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High IT literacy; comfortable with integrated office systems, databases, spreadsheets and correspondence tools
