Senior Technologist Artificial Intelligence R&D

Overview

In this Lead Technologist role, you guide the technical delivery of large AI projects and mentor a team across AI/ML domains. You’ll assure engineering quality, shape research directions, and engage with customers across space, defence, security and commercial sectors. The role blends deep technical leadership with opportunities to collaborate with academia and grow new research areas. You will work in a hybrid setup, influencing outcomes in a mission-critical environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of large AI projects
• Prepare and deliver technical reports, proposals and supporting material
• Identify novel research areas with potential academic partnerships
• Direct research activities in key areas
• Present research to technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor junior staff in technical skills
• Provide engineering assurance on bids, publications and deliverables

Key requirements

• PhD in a relevant discipline
• circa 10+ years of AI/ML experience in industry or academia (defence preferred)
• experience leading R&D teams with at least 5 developers
• experience with Engineering Assurance activities
• proposal writing experience (Dstl, NS, EPSRC)
