Overview

In this role you lead transformation across one of London’s most complex estates within UCL’s Bloomsbury Capital Programme. You will drive major redevelopments, new builds, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings, collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality facilities that support education, research and innovation. You’ll balance safety, quality and user experience while guiding projects through governance, design, procurement and construction. This is a chance to shape enduring spaces for students, researchers and partners, across strategic locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a diverse portfolio of capital projects (2m–100m+) within the Bloomsbury Capital Programme
  • Manage multi-disciplinary project teams through all lifecycle stages, coordinating stakeholders, consultants, contractors and advisers
  • Drive governance and approvals, translating technical information into clear recommendations
  • Identify risks and opportunities early and ensure timely resolution to avoid delivery barriers
  • Develop capability within the project team and foster a collaborative learning environment
  • Engage with senior leaders and academic/professional services stakeholders to align project outcomes with strategic objectives
  • Balance competing priorities while maintaining safety, quality, value, programme and user experience
  • Lead on-site construction activity with a focus on occupied/operational environments and business continuity
  • Support the long-term capital investment programme and contribute to masterplanning and strategic estate investments
  • Provide visible leadership and promote an inclusive, proactive, solution-focused delivery culture

Key requirements

  • Significant experience delivering major projects within occupied/operational environments
  • Proven track record delivering design, procurement, construction and handover
  • Experience delivering projects through RIBA stages or equivalent
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage external consultants and contractors
  • Comfort leading in complex, ambiguous situations with momentum and pace
  • Strong construction/project delivery knowledge with early risk/opportunity identification
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders and governance groups
  • Experience balancing strategic objectives with practical delivery
  • Collaborative, inclusive leadership style with capability to motivate teams
  • Proactive, resilient mindset for fast-paced delivery
  • Strong commercial awareness including NEC and JCT contract experience
  • Experience managing substantial budgets with forecasting and reporting
  • Knowledge of statutory/regulatory requirements (planning, building regs, Building Safety, CDM)
  • Passion for creating environments that support education, research and innovation
  • Relevant professional qualification or experiential equivalent is essential
  • Ability to work on-site in London at least 4 days per week
