Overview

As Principal Building Structures Engineer, you lead a team to deliver technically robust building structures solutions within Amey’s Built Environment portfolio. You will ensure designs and calculations meet relevant standards and client requirements while mentoring junior staff. The role covers design governance, risk management, and active involvement in bids and client engagements. You will work across nuclear and complex infrastructure projects, contributing to safety, quality, and programme outcomes in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to produce technically robust engineering solutions aligned with standards and client needs
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation for scheme deliverables
• Oversee junior staff activities and assume responsibility for their work
• Manage project budgets and costs to ensure commercial success
• Liaise with clients and suppliers, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries
• Contribute to bids and business development activities
• Work on-site as required, including out-of-hours work
• Fulfill people management responsibilities when needed

Key requirements

• Demonstrable building structures experience
• Experience managing a small team of engineers and technicians
• Technical leadership with compliant design governance
• Familiarity with Structural Eurocodes and Building Regulations
• Proficient with 3D CAD software Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds
• Experience managing quality and programme performance across schemes
• Professional engagement with clients and stakeholders
• Chartered status with a relevant professional institution
