In this role you will lead geotechnical projects from concept through construction within AECOM’s Ground Engineering team in Manchester. You will apply cutting-edge ground investigation and design approaches, addressing slope stability and ground improvement challenges. You’ll mentor junior staff and drive technical excellence across multidisciplinary projects for rail, highways, water and energy sectors. Responsibilities
- Lead and manage geotechnical projects from investigation through design and construction, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Apply advanced ground investigation, geotechnical design, and construction methods, including slope stability and ground improvement.
- Investigate, report on, and remediate historic mine workings; leverage quaternary geology and rock mechanics where advantageous.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and development for junior team members.
- Lead fee bids and proposals for internal and external clients; manage project execution to meet time, budget, and quality targets.
Key requirements
- Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or Geotechnical Engineering (BSc or MSc); Chartered status preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ground investigation practices, interpretation, and soil/rock parameter assessment.
- Experience in producing drawings, risk assessments, specifications, and design reports.
- Ability to lead project delivery, manage client relationships, and oversee execution
- Familiarity with design codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical design; openness to new methods.
- Willingness to travel across the UK; clean driving licence.
