Overview

As a Senior Development Engineer in Caterpillar’s IPSD, you will lead and execute development and validation of core engine components, from castings to lubrication and cooling modules. You will work within the Component Engineering Base Engine Team across global sites, suppliers, and customers to ensure durable, high-quality solutions. You will tackle complex design challenges, support field and production issues, and drive risk reduction through FMEA and design reviews. Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate core engine components (castings, geartrain, valvetrain, lubrication/cooling systems)
  • Lead and plan challenging tasks and projects in a global, cross-functional context
  • Foster supplier relationships to ensure quality and cost targets
  • Address manufacturing and quality-related issues with containment and corrective actions
  • Conduct risk assessments via FMEA and drive design reviews for approval
  • Prepare engineering drawings and data per Caterpillar standards for prototype and production
  • Utilize APQP methodology with suppliers to manage product releases
  • Communicate progress with stakeholders and manage project deliverables

Key requirements

  • 6+ years in development and validation of components and engines
  • Strong knowledge of core engine systems (rotating, valvetrain, lubrication, cooling)
  • Experience with casting and machining of complex components
  • Understanding of manufacturing assembly principles and component manufacturing
  • Proven ability to manage tasks and deliver to commitments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with FMEA
