Overview

As an Associate Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer, you will lead technical delivery, project management and client liaison within a growing flood risk and drainage specialist. You will own project work from brief to completion, building strong client relationships and guiding junior team members. You’ll work on FRAs, drainage strategies and SuDS, supported by hydraulic modelling and planning advisory. The role offers autonomy, scope for progression and a chance to shape the expanding team in Reading. Responsibilities

  • Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
  • Conduct surface water, fluvial and groundwater flood risk assessments
  • Design sustainable drainage systems (SuDS)
  • Carry out drainage calculations and hydraulic modelling
  • Review drainage designs and provide technical advice
  • Support planning applications and liaise with Local Authorities
  • Manage projects from initial brief through to completion
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Support and mentor junior team members

Key requirements

  • Relevant degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geography or related subject
  • Several years’ experience in flood risk and/or drainage consultancy
  • Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
  • Good knowledge of SuDS and UK planning requirements
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW or InfoWorks ICM
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • Confidence to manage projects and liaise with clients
