Overview
In this Operations Director role, you will shape operational excellence and drive growth across Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical disciplines. You’ll partner with the executive team to build scalable systems, improve profitability, and lead post‑acquisition integration. The position offers high visibility, strategic influence, and the chance to steer cross‑location operations and client expansion. You will play a key part in aligning culture and operating models with the company’s growth ambitions. Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of Civil & Structural operations with support to Geotechnical teams
- Develop operational strategies to improve service delivery, profitability, and resource use
- Establish KPIs, reporting, and continuous improvement programs
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture across locations
- Provide visible leadership across the wider organisation
- Shape and execute growth strategy across public and private markets
- Secure high-value business and strengthen client relationships
- Lead major framework and strategic business opportunities
- Identify cross-selling opportunities and grow market share
- Support organic growth and acquisitions
- Lead post-acquisition integration aligning operating models, systems, and culture
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting and financial performance
- Identify and manage key commercial risks and opportunities
- Drive margin improvement and sustainable long-term growth
Key requirements
- Proven senior leadership in construction, engineering or consultancy
- Track record of measurable operational and commercial improvements
- Strong P&L accountability and budget management
- Background in business development, client acquisition and revenue growth
- Excellent people leadership and change management
- Ability to unite teams and cultures around a common strategy
- Technical background in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent
- Previous leadership in an engineering consultancy
- Direct experience of M&A or post-acquisition integration
