Overview
In this role you will be hands-on Chief Engineer aboard a tug, responsible for keeping high-power machinery in a live port environment safe and operational. You work closely with the Master and crew to minimize downtime and ensure readiness of the engine room. The position emphasizes real ownership, technical challenge, and rapid fault resolution under pressure. Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate high-power tug machinery in a live port environment
- Diagnose faults and fix problems under pressure
- Own the condition, safety, and readiness of the engine room
- Support the Master and crew to keep the tug operational at all times
- Work as part of a small, professional crew where trust and competence matter
Key requirements
- STCW III/3 Chief Engineer ≤6000kW (III/2 Unlimited preferred)
- Valid ENG1 and STCW certification (minimum 6 months validity)
- Strong fault-finding, maintenance, and problem-solving skills
- Harbour towage or small-vessel experience preferred
- Right to live and work in the UK
