Senior Underwriter – D&F

Overview

In this Senior Underwriter role, you will lead underwriting for Direct & Facultative Property, including complex international risks, as part of QBE’s D&F Property London team. You will shape appetite, strategy and profitability while building strong broker relationships and upholding underwriting standards. You’ll work with cross‑functional partners to align with regulatory and reinsurance frameworks and to scale the property book in a global insurer context. This is an entrepreneurial, equity‑driven position offering autonomy and visible impact on portfolio growth.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Direct & Facultative Property risks, including complex international business
• Shape appetite, focus areas, and strategy for the D&F Property portfolio
• Build and strengthen relationships with London Market and international brokers
• Contribute to business plan delivery for profitable, sustainable growth
• Act as a senior technical referral point with underwriting judgment and market insight
• Maintain understanding of market dynamics, capacity and pricing in D&F Property
• Ensure activity aligns with underwriting standards, reinsurance strategy, and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across underwriting, operations and leadership as the proposition evolves

Key requirements

• Property underwriting experience, international or US exposure
• Deep technical understanding of Property wordings, structures and programme design
• Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset in a build-and-growth environment
• Confidence in engaging with brokers and senior stakeholders
• Excellent negotiation, communication and decision-making skills
• Collaborative approach and senior-underwriter level gravitas
• Right to work in the UK (sponsorship at QBE’s discretion)
