Overview
In this role, you will manage a challenging defendant clinical negligence caseload for a range of clients, including NHS Trusts, NHS Resolution, MDOs, and insurers. You will draft documents, lead negotiations and mediation, and ensure cases progress to court deadlines. You serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients, delivering commercially-focused legal advice within firm protocols. You will also contribute to non-fee-earning activities and participate in knowledge sharing, training, and business development to support the department’s growth.
Responsibilities
- Handle defendant clinical negligence caseload for a variety of clients (NHS Resolution, NHS Trusts, MDU, insurers)
- Draft legal documents, conduct negotiations and mediation, and prepare cases for court deadlines
- Provide day-to-day client care as primary contact, delivering commercially-focused advice
- Adhere to protocols and processes; participate in non-fee-earning activity
- Engage in knowledge sharing, training, client seminars, article writing for internal/external publications, and business development
Key requirements
- Solicitor/Associate (~18 months PQE+) with experience in clinical negligence, personal injury, civil litigation, or insurance law
- Experience with NHS Resolution or MDO panel firms desirable but not essential
- Strong technical and organizational skills; able to manage multiple claims with an IT case management system
- Demonstrated ability to adopt a commercial, client-focused perspective
