Senior Data Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will own a defined area of our data platform and set standards that guide the team. You’ll lead end-to-end delivery and line-manage engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and resilience across the data domain. Working across ingestion, integration, governance and observability, you’ll deliver robust, observable solutions that scale with the business. This role combines hands-on engineering with leadership, within a mission to make data trusted and widely available. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to support data-driven decision making in healthcare and fitness.

Responsibilities

• Own a defined functional area of the data platform, setting standards and tooling.
• Document work to enable knowledge transfer and avoid single points of dependency.
• Lead end-to-end delivery initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Line manage engineers and external resources for initiatives.
• Design, build and operate ingestion, integration and transformation solutions on Snowflake, dbt and Azure.
• Ensure operability, observability and supportability; contribute to incident/problem management.
• Coach mid-level engineers to take ownership of epics and initiatives.
• Contribute to technical roadmap, BAU planning and engineering maturity.
• Escalate risks and dependencies to the Lead Data Engineer and communicate with stakeholders.

Key requirements

• Extensive hands-on data engineering experience in integration, data modelling and warehousing with strong SQL.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools (Talend, Azure Data Factory, dbt) and databases (MS SQL Server, Snowflake, Azure SQL Database).
• Experience with performance tuning, data migration strategies and relational design for BI.
• Ability to set and uphold engineering standards and own outcomes for a technical area.
• Experience delivering projects with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, architects and third-party suppliers.
• Line management or mentoring experience or clear appetite to develop it with support.
• Excellent communication, including translating technical concepts for diverse audiences.
