Overview

As Principal Mechanical Engineer at Stantec, you lead the technical delivery of mechanical solutions for UK water and wastewater projects, spanning feasibility to commissioning. You mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and build strong client and partner relationships to deliver resilient, sustainable infrastructure. You’ll shape multi-disciplinary projects and contribute to growth of the Midlands Mechanical Engineering capability. This is a leadership role at a top engineering consultancy, offering visibility across AMP8 and beyond and a chance to influence major water infrastructure programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design across water and wastewater facilities and related infrastructure
  • Deliver projects from feasibility and concept through detailed design, construction support and commissioning
  • Produce and review calculations, specifications, reports and engineering documentation
  • Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams and ensure delivery quality
  • Mentor and develop engineers to enhance technical capability
  • Collaborate with clients, PMs, contractors and supply chain partners to achieve project outcomes
  • Contribute to business development, framework delivery and continuous improvement initiatives

Key requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or working towards
  • Strong experience in detailed mechanical design within the UK water sector
  • Experience leading technical delivery on multidisciplinary projects
  • Solid understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and associated mechanical systems
  • Experience mentoring engineers and supporting their development
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
