Principal / Senior Electrical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will provide advanced electrical engineering support within AFRY’s Energy Division, focusing on thermal and renewable energy projects in the UK. You will guide feasibility studies, design reviews, and EPC/owner’s engineer activities to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient energy solutions. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to address project challenges, contribute to business development, and mentor younger engineers. This is an opportunity to shape sustainable energy infrastructure at scale.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering/technical guidance to identify and resolve project challenges
• Offer design support and technical reviews for designs by others
• Produce conceptual, preliminary and detailed design deliverables (drawings, specs, cost estimates, schedules)
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and sketches
• Attend factory and site acceptance tests and monitor construction activities
• Continuously improve engineering knowledge and performance
• Identify and mitigate health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial risks
• Support business development activities (proposals, client engagements, bids)
• Assist in developing younger engineers

Key requirements

• 2:1 degree in electrical engineering (minimum)
• Chartered status or working towards Chartered (Senior/Principal)
• Significant knowledge of LV to HV industrial electrical infrastructure
• Knowledge of electrical British and international standards and regulations
• Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to structure unclear situations into actionable tasks
• Proactive decision-making and initiative
• Excellent written and spoken English; clear communication to management and diverse teams
• Willingness to travel and operate under pressure
