Overview

In this senior role you will lead the development and delivery of transport planning projects in the Newcastle team, combining technical analysis, project leadership and client engagement. You will steer transport scheme analysis, economic appraisals and business cases in line with DfT and HM Treasury guidance, ensuring robust outputs. You will act as a trusted adviser to regional and national clients, shaping strategy and forging strong relationships. You will mentor colleagues and contribute to winning new work, supporting a growing regional transport practice. This position offers exposure to multi-disciplinary, high-impact projects focused on sustainable, evidence-based decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead detailed transport scheme analysis to inform design and investment decisions
  • Direct preparation of economic appraisals and business cases per DfT/HM Treasury guidance
  • Guide forecast testing and scenario analysis for transport schemes
  • Ensure quality and robustness of analytical outputs
  • Act as trusted adviser to regional/national clients and shape strategy
  • Represent the business in senior-level meetings and workshops
  • Support work-winning and bid leadership in the region
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver multi-disciplinary commissions
  • Mentor and develop junior staff and contribute to succession planning

Key requirements

  • Experience in transport planning
  • Degree in relevant field
  • Chartered status or membership of CIHT, TPS, ICE or similar
  • Experience in economic appraisal and business case development for major transport schemes
  • Proven track record delivering multi-disciplinary projects to DfT and Treasury guidance
  • Experience applying advanced analytical techniques and industry-standard tools to assess network performance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with senior-level presentation ability
