In this role you will join a private client team focused on contentious probate, advising on disputes and high-stakes estate matters. You will work with a diverse client base across Gloucestershire, handling complex claims and estate planning issues. The position blends litigation and advisory work, with opportunities to support business development and client growth. Responsibilities

  • Advise on and progress claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
  • Handle disputes over Wills, testamentary capacity, estate administration, and executor conduct
  • Prepare responses to Larke v Nugus requests
  • Draft Wills and advise on tax-efficient estate planning
  • Administer estates for private and business clients
  • Advise on and prepare Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection applications
  • Trust formation, administration, and tax planning
  • Support elderly clients with residential and nursing care planning
  • Contribute to firm growth through marketing, networking, and BD initiatives

Key requirements

  • Around 3 years’ PQE in private client law with a focus on contentious probate
  • Strong knowledge of contested Wills, IPFDA claims, and estate disputes
  • Experience advising on inheritance tax, CGT, and income tax in estate planning
  • Familiarity with trust law, deeds of variation, and LPA preparation
  • STEP or SFE qualification is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive, organised approach with strong attention to detail
  • Team player with commercial awareness and a client-first mindset
  • Confident using legal tech and case management systems
