Overview

In this role you will lead multiple estate development and refurbishment projects to deliver safe, on-time, on-budget improvements across the university estate. You will partner with faculties, services, consultants and contractors to align projects with the university’s strategic objectives and student experience goals. You’ll manage scope, budgets, risks and governance while minimising disruption to building users. This is a hands-on role for a construction project professional seeking impact at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of estate development, refurbishment and infrastructure projects from inception to completion
  • Manage scope, programme, budgets, quality, risks and governance for successful outcomes
  • Develop business cases, feasibility studies and project plans for investment decisions
  • Build and manage stakeholder relationships as the primary client representative
  • Procure and manage consultants, contractors and specialists per university procedures
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and monitor contractor performance and compliance
  • Oversee budgets, cash flow and financial reporting with opportunities for value improvements
  • Support delivery and monitoring of the Capital Programme and escalate risks as needed
  • Mentor and support junior project managers to foster a high-performing team
  • Ensure CDM 2015, health and safety, statutory requirements and university policies
  • Prepare progress updates and reports for senior stakeholders
  • Ensure smooth project handover with documentation, certification and lessons learned

Key requirements

  • Proven track record delivering construction projects in higher education or similarly complex environments
  • Strong leadership, clear communication and stakeholder management
  • In-depth knowledge of construction project management best practices and relevant legislation
  • Relevant professional qualification or active pursuit of chartership
  • Experience working in the construction industry (as required)
