In this Principal Environmental Consultant role, you lead environmental inputs to EIA processes for large infrastructure schemes, shaping outcomes from early strategy to construction. You work within AECOM’s Environmental Impact team to deliver high-quality assessments and drive environmental performance across a diverse project portfolio. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to identify constraints, mitigate impacts, and unlock benefits. Responsibilities
- Lead environmental inputs to EIA screening, scoping, assessments, and Environmental Statements, including future Environmental Outcomes Reports
- Oversee project life-cycle activities from strategy and site identification through design, discharging conditions, and operation
- Review specialist chapters and ensure deliverables meet quality standards and procedures
- Manage resources and budgets within projects and coordinate multidisciplinary inputs
- Collaborate within integrated design teams to identify constraints and mitigation or enhancement opportunities
- Maintain and develop client relationships and internal supply chains
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities and prepare fee and technical proposals
- Work across multiple consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill) across projects
Key requirements
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of EIA, environmental assessment methods, planning legislation, and consenting regimes
- Experience with DCO and/or TWAO (beneficial)
- Consultancy experience with robust project management skills (programming, resourcing, budgeting)
- Ability to coordinate specialist technical inputs effectively
- Excellent verbal, report writing, and technical review skills; strong stakeholder engagement
- Degree in a relevant environmental discipline; Masters preferred; professional membership; Chartered Environmentalist advantageous
