Overview

In this Manufacturing Engineer role, you will design and maintain efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes for new and existing products, ensuring quality and fit-for-purpose production. You will lead NPI activities, interface with design and operations, and drive improvements across PFMEA, DFMA, and AS9145 processes within an AS9100 framework. This is a hands-on role in a defence/aerospace environment with cross-functional collaboration. You will help scale manufacturing capabilities and optimize costs while supporting a high-performing team.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation for new and existing products
  • Design repeatable, reproducible manufacturing processes to ensure quality
  • Support AS9145 (APQP + PPAP) within AS9100 organisation
  • Lead ME engagement with the NPI team
  • Apply DFMA principles and manage NPI transition from engineering to operations
  • Understand project management and supply chain principles
  • Evaluate processes/products with PFMEA and implement risk mitigation
  • Contribute to bids with labour/material/tooling estimates
  • Define production requirements for NPI and justify build/test strategies
  • Coordinate supplier selection with procurement and design teams
  • Design and manage manufacturing tooling for efficient assembly
  • Improve process workflow, space, tools, and layout
  • Support RCCA, FRACAS and MRB to reduce defects and improve FPY
  • Review costs and plan cost-effective redesign actions
  • Support a high-performing team and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers
  • Integrate new techniques and tooling for NPI and automation

Key requirements

  • AS9145 experience within AS9100 organisation
  • Strong DFMA knowledge
  • NPI transition experience
  • MRP/ERP understanding
  • HNC/HND in Engineering
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma qualification
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Self-driven with strong planning and organisational abilities
