Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Overview

As a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Design & Advanced Technology team, you drive mechanical design delivery for landmark water projects. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary group on complex UK/international schemes, shaping pumping, water and wastewater solutions that underpin critical infrastructure. You’ll lead technical delivery, mentor engineers, and contribute to bids and project milestones, in a collaborative, inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives. Responsibilities

• Coordinate or manage a Mechanical engineering design delivery team for complex multi-disciplinary projects
• Produce and review design reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work
• Provide technical input for Mechanical aspects of projects and manage time/budgets to milestones
• Collaborate with client, operational, project, or service teams
• Mentor less experienced colleagues and grow local mechanical capabilities
• Work independently with minimal technical guidance and provide guidance to juniors
• Support technical reviews for bid proposals
• Deliver integrated design solutions with multidisciplinary teams
• Adhere to QA standards and review own and others’ work

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Chartered or Incorporated Mechanical Engineer
• Water/Wastewater sector experience
• Experience coordinating or managing a mechanical design delivery team within a multi-disciplinary environment
• Broad perspective to identify innovative design solutions
• Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment (pumps, blowers, screens, chemical dosing) and UK design standards
• Knowledge of CDM and DSEAR and current legislation
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
• Proficiency in applicable analytical software
• Water market experience preferred
