Overview
In this role you will lead the commercial management for a Buckinghamshire highways project within a top UK civil engineering group. You will drive cost control, risk oversight, and reporting, working with cross-functional teams to ensure profitable delivery. You’ll partner with clients and supply chain, upholding company values and promoting best practices. This is a high-visibility position with impact on project profitability and governance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and professionalisation of the commercial function across the project and team
- Forecasting, budgeting and cost reporting in liaison with finance
- Oversee sub-contract procurement to secure best terms and compliance
- Manage change control, variation processes and risk management
- Ensure timely invoicing, cash flow and client interface for settlements
- Coordinate legal, tax, insurance inputs and ensure contract compliance
- Oversee reporting and audit readiness, and continuous improvement of commercial procedures
- Promote alliance partnering culture and maintain good client/supply chain relationships
- Supervise sub-contract accounts and resolution of disputes
- Maintain costing, valuation, and project filing systems for accurate commercial agreements
- Produce monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts
- Negotiate subcontractor rates and ensure timely pre-qualification and tender documentation
Key requirements
- Strong project management and leadership skills
- Ability to work under pressure and tight timescales
- Minimum HNC/HND in relevant field
- Previous commercial management experience in construction
- Professional development or graduate with ongoing CPD
- Understanding of contract terms and conditions
- Awareness of financial/management accounting and reporting procedures
- Business analysis and process improvement capability
