Overview
As Principal Manufacturing Engineer you act as a technical authority to mentor manufacturing engineers and deliver value through manufacturing systems on shipbuilding projects. You will own the MES test lifecycle, guiding governance and execution of work packages to ensure operational performance. You’ll collaborate across Operations, IT, and other functions to enable integrated digital solutions for world-class ship manufacturing. This role focuses on data-driven decisions, continuous improvement, and shaping digital manufacturing capabilities within the Naval Ships program. It’s a chance to influence strategy and drive transformation on high-profile programmes like Type 26.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to manufacturing engineers
- Drive development, integration, and use of data from manufacturing systems for insight-led decisions
- Manage MES requirements lifecycle with cross-functional teams for tactical projects and work packages
- Perform root cause analysis of manufacturing system issues and drive timely resolutions
- Champion continuous improvement in digital manufacturing, data governance, and processes
- Support Manufacturing Engineering Manager in shaping strategy and DOA for manufacturing systems initiatives
Key requirements
- Sound engineering knowledge demonstrated by qualifications and experience
- Experience with Digital Systems such as MES, ERP, NC programming, PLM, 2D/3D CAD/CAM
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate tasks to deliver high-quality outcomes on time
