Engineering Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead two cross-functional engineering pods and shape Raylo’s technical direction as we scale a data- and AI-powered platform. You will balance hands-on engineering with people leadership to accelerate delivery, uphold high standards, and coach a growing team. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and AI initiatives to drive impactful features that support growth and reliability. This is a high-ownership role where you influence engineering culture, practices, and OKRs while enabling teams to operate with autonomy. Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire two cross-functional pods (frontend, backend, data, analytics, and AI) in collaboration with product teams
• Manage engineers through coaching, 1:1s, and performance discussions to foster growth and autonomy
• Drive engineering excellence with a balance of hands-on work (30–70%) and strategic contribution
• Own project direction, identify gaps, and propose improvements to improve velocity, quality, and developer experience
• Ensure timely delivery of impactful features and coordinate execution across teams
• Shape Raylo’s engineering culture, share knowledge, and uphold high engineering standards with leadership
• Support data platform and pipeline issue resolution to improve system reliability and performance
• Set expectations and align on OKRs with the Director of Engineering and other stakeholders

Key requirements

• 3+ years as an engineering lead or manager
• 2+ years managing a team of 3+ engineers
• Hands-on engineering background (3+ years) with leadership exposure
• Experience in product development (full stack or backend focus, ideally Ruby on Rails) and data engineering
• Strong technical foundation in frontend (Next.js) or backend (Ruby on Rails) development
• Experience delivering cross-functional projects in agile environments
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Mentoring and coaching engineers to grow skills and impact
• Startups or scale-ups experience in fast-paced environments
• Strong problem-solving, balancing technical constraints with business needs
