Overview

As a Mechanical Designer, you will contribute to new product development, continuous improvement, and lifecycle management of semiconductor manufacturing equipment at our Severn Beach facility. You will collaborate with designers, process engineers, and operations to solve challenging engineering problems in extreme conditions, safety, and precision control. You’ll translate requirements into modular, robust designs and guide problem-solving and continuous improvement across projects. This role offers hands-on design, verification, and documentation work within a cross-functional team that shapes high‑tech manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Concept and design of components and devices; 3D solid models and detailed drawings
  • Perform Design Verification and Validation via calculations, simulations and prototype tests
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements (BS, EN, Semi)
  • Provide technical information for Technical Files, manuals and documentation
  • Follow internal design processes within the Business Management System
  • Collaborate across design, process and operations to clarify specifications
  • Translate technical requirements into modular designs with other departments
  • Lead problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis during manufacture, test or on customer sites
  • Propose and lead continuous improvement of products and processes
  • Lead and coordinate engineering design projects to deliver quality solutions on time
  • Manage work packages, timelines, reporting, and stakeholder escalation
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (Solidedge), PLM software, Excel, Word, Outlook
  • General drawing office duties and documentation maintenance
  • Prioritise health, safety and environmental protection
  • Support personal and professional development with the manager
  • Carry out other tasks as reasonably requested by the company

Key requirements

  • Experience in mechanical design of systems and mechanisms
  • Experience in design verification and validation via calculation, simulation and prototype testing
  • Ability to lead and deliver work scopes with cross-discipline teams
  • Knowledge of machined components, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and manufacturing/assembly methods
  • Strong problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis skills
  • Professional engineering drawing/design best practice
  • Ability to analyse data
  • Commercial awareness of product costs, reliability and safety issues
