Overview

In this role, you will oversee large, complex transport planning projects and guide multiple workstreams to deliver high-quality outcomes. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, mentor teams, and contribute to strategic growth and the firm’s reputation. The position involves steering project risk, supporting business development, and promoting best practices within a collaborative culture. You will engage with stakeholders, potentially serve as an Expert Witness, and help shape practice improvement and sector impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large, multi-workstream transport projects with quality delivery across technical, financial, and operational aspects
  • Act as a strategic advisor to clients and stakeholders on transport planning matters
  • Negotiate with multiple parties to resolve complex issues and achieve successful outcomes
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks to protect delivery standards
  • Provide troubleshooting and guidance within the team across project work
  • Support or act as Expert Witness for technical matters when required (optional)
  • Contribute to organisational development through practice improvement and operational groups
  • Promote the profession through webinars, seminars, and industry activities
  • Contribute to business growth through work-winning and maintaining a strong client base
  • Oversee commercial aspects including WIP, budgets, and aged debt management
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to enhance practice reputation and service delivery
  • Mentor and develop senior and junior staff across projects

Key requirements

  • Extensive development-related transport planning experience with a track record of leading large projects
  • Chartered membership of CIHT, TPS, or CILT
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, resources, and budgets
  • Excellent problem-solving and cross-team guidance abilities
  • Strong client relationship management and advisory capabilities to senior clients
  • Strong negotiation skills for multi-party coordination
  • Commercial awareness with experience in business development and practice growth
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills with mentoring experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical advice
