Overview

In this role you apply behavioural insights and data-driven evidence to improve tax compliance, financial decision-making, and customer experience. You lead evaluations of behavioural interventions and act as an internal consultant across policy, compliance, and operations. You design field trials, analyse quantitative data, and communicate findings to senior stakeholders. You work across CUB and CXD to deliver shared priorities, shaping how HMRC helps customers. Responsibilities

  • Design and lead evaluations of behavioural interventions (field trials, survey experiments, quasi-experimental approaches)
  • Analyse experimental data using statistical methods
  • Drive project scoping, problem-solving and behavioural diagnosis to inform interventions
  • Consult and influence by communicating complex findings to stakeholders
  • Collaborate across CUB and CXD teams to deliver shared priorities

Key requirements

  • Strong use of statistical analysis techniques (inferential analyses, linear and logistic regression)
  • Experience applying behavioural insights theory to real-world problems
  • Quantitative research methods to explore real-world problems and produce robust recommendations
  • Design and run research trials and evaluations
  • Proficiency in coding with R and trial protocols
  • Data cleaning and analysis of trial and survey data
  • Understanding ethical considerations of human-centred research
  • Clear communication of research evidence to persuade and influence diverse audiences
  • Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships, including senior leaders
  • Degree in an analytical discipline (minimum 2:1) and/or significant relevant work experience
