Overview

As a Senior HVDC Project Engineer in Stantec’s HVDC Center of Excellence, you will lead front-end design activities and develop technical documents for HVDC/FACTS projects worldwide. You’ll evaluate bids, witness factory tests, and support commissioning while engaging in business development and industry contributions. You work with cross-functional teams to advance decarbonization and grid modernization on major infrastructure programs. This role offers exposure to global projects and a path to technical and leadership influence in a world-class design firm.

Responsibilities

  • Apply HVDC/FACTS know-how across design, operation, and protection domains
  • Develop technical specifications and tender documents for HVDC converters and FACTS devices
  • Evaluate bids, perform design reviews, witness factory tests, and support on-site commissioning
  • Engage in studies related to HVDC/FACTS and their power system applications
  • Ensure compliance with HVDC transmission and FACTS codes and standards
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; willingness to travel

Key requirements

  • Perform and lead project tasks with minimal supervision
  • Mentor and train junior staff in HVDC/FACTS
  • Represent the company in industry technical committees and working groups
  • Maintain strong client and industry relationships; contribute to business development and proposals
  • Stay current with industry developments
  • BSc in electrical engineering; 15+ years industry experience with 10+ years HVDC/FACTS; eligible for professional registration in Canada or the US
  • Remote work possibility; field exposure to elements; travel readiness
