Overview
As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead civil design and verification across energy projects, spanning wind, solar, hydro, grid, and storage. You’ll work within the Renewables & Transmission and Distribution teams to deliver feasibility through construction, shaping sustainable infrastructure. You’ll engage with clients, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff, contributing to AECOM’s global energy agenda. This role offers broad project scope, technical leadership, and a clear path for career progression.

Responsibilities
- Act as lead verifier on feasibility studies and design reports
- Liaise with clients, manage day-to-day project delivery within timescales and budgets
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams
- Lead and manage civil infrastructure design (roads, drainage, external works)
- Prepare and review calculations, drawings, and specifications per UK standards (BS EN, Eurocodes, CDM)
- Perform site inspections and address technical queries
- Produce high-quality reports (feasibility, inspection, design documentation)
- Mentor and guide junior staff
Key requirements
- BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering
- Chartered status or working towards chartership
- Experience delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects in the Energy Transition sector
- Experience in UK Transmission & Distribution projects (11KV–400KV)
- Strong technical competency in civil/structural design
- Solid report writing and organizational skills
- Familiarity with National Grid Technical Specifications (NGTS) or National Grid CDAE status is advantageous
