Overview

As Senior Manager, Physical Design, you will lead a cross-functional PD team aimed at delivering high-performance CPU cores with optimal power, performance, and area. You drive execution across floorplanning, CTS, routing, and signoff while mentoring engineers and coordinating with RTL teams. The role blends technical leadership with people management to push the boundaries of microprocessor design. You will shape PD strategies on next-gen CPUs and tape-outs, contributing to AMD’s mission to advance computing experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a high-performing CPU Core Physical Design and signoff team
  • Apply expertise in PD, timing closure, and signoff to deliver on-time, high-quality CPU core designs
  • Mentor and develop the CPU Core PD team and foster positive culture
  • Provide technical leadership across PD: full chip floorplanning, CTS, placement and optimization, routing, parasitic extraction, STA, IR/EM, physical verification, final signoff
  • Collaborate with RTL teams to improve PPA metrics and drive flow development and automation
  • Lead hands-on PD activities for SoC PD implementation, signoff, and tapeout

Key requirements

  • Hands-on experience in SoC Physical Design implementation, signoff, and tapeout
  • Proven leadership experience managing PD teams of 10+ engineers
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Proficiency with industry-standard PD/Signoff tools (Synopsys FusionCompiler, PrimeTime, StarRC; Cadence Innovus; Mentor Graphics Calibre; Apache Redhawk)
  • Background in high-speed microprocessor designs and familiarity with sub-micron technologies
  • Solid understanding of PD tools and flows or related circuit design
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field
