Senior Flight Test Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Flight Test Engineer, you will lead flight test campaigns and certification activities for Zephyr-based systems in a cutting-edge Stratospace program. You’ll work within the Flight Test Engineering team to translate stakeholder needs into test requirements, develop and review documentation, and coordinate ground and flight testing across UK and international sites. You’ll analyze results to drive decisions, ensure conformance to development and certification standards, and support complex aviation programs with regulators. This role offers impact on high-altitude aviation technology and a chance to shape testing practices in a global aerospace initiative.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and report flight test campaigns to meet development and type certification requirements
• Safely manage ground and flight test activities in the UK and worldwide sites
• Elicit and analyze stakeholder requirements to derive test needs
• Manage individual test activities and flight test risk
• Deliver impact analysis for system changes
• Verify that system and subsystem requirements are correctly implemented
• Evaluate changes including new/expanded functionality
• Ensure testing aligns with AALTO development and certification standards

Key requirements

• Aviation industry experience
• Degree in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
• Experience as Flight Test Engineer or Trials officer in civilian/military settings
• Strong understanding of modern aircraft systems and flight physics
• Experience with aviation regulators or Part 21 organizations
• Proficient in data analysis using MATLAB or similar
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with overseas travel and long hours
• Excellent interpersonal communication across disciplines and seniority
